The anguished plea from the Beatles that material possessions “Can’t Buy Me Love” (1964) comes from a place deep in the soul that only someone who truly knows British women can understand. If British celebrities are any indication, we too would be pining for the affections of British ladies.
Did you see Kate Winsletin Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (1994)? She was definitely worth keeping stored away in the deep memory compartment of the brain. Speaking of the deep, although we weren't huge fans of the film Titanic (1997), had we been anywhere near the actual Titanic, we would definitely jump into the freezing waters to save young Ms. Winslet. OK, maybe we wouldn't have jumped into the water – but we would have or at least offered her a spot on the lifeboat. . .
Kiera Knightlywas only 18 in Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)? Wow, wish we could have gone to that high school growing up. Her appearance on Star Wars (1999) as a decoy for Natalie Portman’s character had us fooled and then some. She was barely a teenager in that movie, but it was clear to us even then that she was going to grow up to be a British bombshell. As an adult, she has been doing more period and drama pieces, which has been a godsend for men around the world who otherwise would have to suffer through those movies with no redeeming distractions.
Kicking things back old school, how about Elizabeth Hurleyin Austin Powers (1997)? She was the perfect match for Austin, or as Mike Myers might say in his Wayne’s World (1992) role . . . NOT. Having a babe like Elizabeth Hurley as the object of Austin’s urges only heighted the humor of his character who was high on sex desire and low on sex appeal. Her acting career did not go anywhere after that, but we do note that she was perfectly cast as a sultry devil in the otherwise forgettable Bedazzled (2000).
Let’s not forget about British royalty, a species of celebrity unique to Britain. Did you know that Duchess Katherine has a fashion phenomenon called The Kate MiddletonEffect named after her? We are not surprised that women want to clone themselves as Duchess Katherine, given her unique combination of elegance and beauty. It’s only a matter of time before she becomes the Queen Consort, and when she does we will be sure to give a hearty All Hail the Queen!
We have only scratched the surface with a few leading reasons why we love British girls. But, we know you get the idea. . .
